Cornrow Care: Keep Your Braids Fresh and Healthy

Cornrow Care: Keep Your Braids Fresh and Healthy

Cornrows are a stylish, low-maintenance protective hairstyle, but proper care is essential. Follow these key steps to maintain their look and keep your hair healthy.

1. Moisturise Regularly

  • Apply lightweight oil (jojoba, argan, tea tree) 2–3 times a week to prevent dryness.

  • Use a braid spray for extra hydration.

2. Protect at Night

  • Wear a silk/satin bonnet, scarf, or durag to reduce frizz.

  • Use a satin pillowcase if you prefer not to cover your hair.

3. Keep Your Scalp Clean

  • Wash every 2–3 weeks with a diluted sulfate-free shampoo.

  • Apply a light leave-in conditioner for moisture.

  • Avoid excessive rubbing to prevent frizz.

4. Avoid Tension & Over-Styling

  • Don’t pull on your cornrows or style them too tightly.

  • Too much tension can cause hair breakage and thinning.

5. Minimise Frizz

  • Use mousse or light gel to smooth flyaways.

  • Apply edge control gel sparingly.

6. Remove on Time

  • Take out cornrows after 4–6 weeks to prevent tangling.

  • Detangle gently with leave-in conditioner before washing.

7. Use Warm Water

  • Avoid hot water, which can cause breakage and dryness.

  • Stick to warm water for washing.

With proper care, your cornrows will stay neat, fresh, and healthy. Keep them moisturised, protect them at night, and avoid tension for the best results!
